Physical DescriptionPilgrim Flask with the Coat of Arms of Albertino della Rovere. Colorless, with grayish tinge; lightly bubbled. Blown; enameled, gilded, applied. Flattened spherical body, tall neck (restored), and pedestal foot strengthened by ribbon of glass that was applied around edge on upper surface. Four loop handles (two restored) on narrow sides of flask.

Painted on both faces with bishop’s coat of arms, surmounted by miter and stole, and supported by angels carrying wands topped with crowns of foliage and palm leaves (brown highlighted with yellow) that emerge from behind blazon. Lower ends of leaves are visible below blazon. In middle, emerging from behind blazon, lobed red flower with blue leaves and blue center, all hatched with yellow. Arms are party per pale sable and azure, dexter a patriarchal cross below a dove argent, sinister an oak tree or, the blazon with an ermine border yellow on brown. Above is sunburst that scatters its rays as background to scene, which is framed by row of alternating red and blue dots on gold ground. Outside this is denticular border in gold, framed by circle of white dots painted directly on glass. Circular fields are edged with representations of looped and tasseled cords in red and yellow, and in yellow and black. Similar cords at top (now almost entirely worn away) appear to have been in blue and yellow, and in white and yellow. Angels wear tunics, one red and other blue, heightened with gold scrollwork. Angel on left has one blue boot and one yellow boot, and his wing is yellow and green; boots and wing of angel on right are yellow and red. Ground is painted in green, with touches of yellow, and plants are rendered in black outline. Miter and stole are white outlined in black, with red, yellow, and black crosses.
