Interpretive Notes
Tiffany used the term "Favrile" to described his iridescent and other art glasses, and he patented the name in 1894.
Physical DescriptionFavrile Vase. Favrile iridescent glass; free-blown; broad squat globular body, short shoulder sloping slightly to short wide neck tapering to flat-collared mouth, ringed circular foot with ground and polished pontil mark; decoration of purplish scrolled circlet on sides, elaborate pointed and scrolled swags on neck and shoulder, marked in script on base "1393 C. L. C. Tiffany - Favrile".
