Physical DescriptionChess Piece: King or Queen. Opaque purple, with opaque white trail and opaque white, off-white, and turquoise blobs. Hot-worked on pontil; applied, dragged, marvered, and applied, marvered. Chess piece: solid. Roughly conical, but somewhat wider at bottom than at top; upper surface flat, except for groove, made by tooling, which runs from side to side and divides top into unequal parts; side straight; base plain and slightly concave; pontil mark circular (D. 1 cm). Entire surface, except for center of base, is decorated with trail that was dropped onto base and wound spirally 17 times, dragged to form 29 contiguous vertical festoons, and marvered. At middle of upper surface, one large white blob with smaller turquoise blob at center; at edge of top, three equidistant off-white blobs, two on larger part of top and one on smaller part.
