This vase, with its yellow stained glass and cut decoration, was typical of Joh. Oertel & Co.’s and the Fachschule Haida’s production around 1915. The decoration is organized geometrically, evoking the new decorative styles that emanated from Vienna, Austria and from the Vienna School of Applied Arts.

Physical DescriptionVase. Colorless glass and yellowish-amber stain; blown, stained, cut. Colorless, blown glass vase decorated with a yellowish-amber stain and cutting. The cylindrical vase bulges slightly in its mid-section, where a band of colorless glass is decorated with vertical lens-shaped facets. Both the upper and lower portions of the glass have been stained yellow and four fans of radiating lines are evenly situated between twelve vertical dotted lines. On the top of the vase, the four fan shapes extend beyond the yellow stained band and into a band of colorless, stippled glass. These four shapes terminate in a saw-toothed arch along the rim. A star has been cut into the vase’s base.
