Interpretive Notes
Students and professors at the Fachschule Steinschönau were known for their impressive output. This is demonstrated by a 1931–1932 report detailing that, in just one year, its workshop blew and decorated 3,600 objects, its institute for drawing models made 2,510 designs for 60 regional refineries and glass manufacturers, and the school provided advice to 474 customers.
Physical DescriptionVase. Colorless glass, yellow, blue, purple, green, and black stain and enamel, gilding; blown, stained, enameled, gilded. Blown, colorless glass vase with yellow, blue, purple, green and black stain and enamel, gilding. The inverted bell-shaped vase has a conical foot and gilded rims. The decoration on the vase’s body is divided into alternating panels of acid-etched or untreated surface. The acid-etched panels contain a stylized bird, leaves and flowers, while the untreated panels contain one enameled floral medallion. The same blue medallions appear on both the knop and the foot of the vessel, alternating on the knop with a blue dot, and on the foot with a vertical black stripe.
