Physical DescriptionCased with opaque light blue, one complex circular cane composed of many canes made from rods of opaque white, gray, pink, brown, yellow, deep blue, and black glasses; canes of varying shapes, sizes, and colors made by fusing monochrome rods; groups of canes assembled, fused, and miniaturized, by stages; finished cane broken into short sections prior to grinding and polishing finished product. Section of mosaic glass cane, D: 0.55 cm, cased with opaque blue glass. Cane contains portrait of Giuseppe Garibaldi, almost full-face but with head turned slightly to one side, against deep blue background. Garibaldi has face in several shades of pink and light brown; eyes are white, with black irises and outlines; nose and nostril are outlined in black; mouth is red; hair and beard are white, with gray shadows; he wears flat red cap with yellow piping and red tassel, large red kerchief with brown shadows and black outlines, knotted, around neck and shoulders, and indeterminate brown garment.Provenance
