Physical DescriptionColorless glass with greyish tinge, bubbles and seeds; opaque white lattimo glass; mold-blown, vetro a fili, vetro a retorti. Tubular socket with rough pontil mark in base; rim broken off, strengthened and smoothened with ribbon of plain glass; socket joined by plain merese to flattened hollow blown knop, supported by a solid capstan-section; joined with cap to tall, domed, slightly waisted foot, mold-blown with central rosette of gadrooning (12 petals), and radiating rows of offset pear-shaped projections; edge fire-polished and strengthened by applied ribbon of plain glass. Candle-holder, knop and foot all have filigrana decoration consisting of vertical bands alternating with cables of thinner, twisted threads (six on candle-holder and knop, eight on foot). The threads on foot show some meandering, which seems not entirely due to the mold-blown pattern. Filigrana threads come together in small scars, due to trimming with straight shears. Merese, capstan, and ribbon around edge of foot show random lattimo thread inclusions. This is particularly evident in the massive capstan.
