Interpretive Notes
Thanks to the discovery of glassblowing, the Romans were able to make large vessels for storing liquids and other perishable goods. They were easy to clean, and when they broke, the glass was recycled.

Physical DescriptionGreenish blue, transparent glass, with bubbles and scale; mold-blown, applied. Bottle: square. Rim uneven, with flange which slopes down toward edge made by folding out, up, and in; neck cylindrical, with constriction at bottom; shoulder has rounded edge; wall vertical, curving in at bottom, with each side slightly concave; base plain; no pontil mark. Strap handle dropped onto edge of shoulder, drawn up and in, and attached to top of neck.
