Physical DescriptionClock Surround, "Le Jour et la Nuit (Day and Night)". Transparent blue glass, metal; mold-pressed. (a) Thick flat circular disk with front edge (flat side) with wide bevel, narrow bevel on back side edge; back side of disk has design of two nude figures bending toward each other following the curve of the glass; the male form, at front right, is concave and has a matte surface, he bends to one side, his head turned towards the female and his arms reach over his head towards one extended hand of the female who is modeled in high relief, she is turned away with back arching toward the male, her free arm is bent to cover her eyes, long wavy hair trails to her feet which cross one of the male's ankles; at the feet of the figures the glass extends into short (cut down) rectangular flange to fit into top opening of stand; scattered bubbles; (b) heavy silver-colored metal rectangular base with four soldered sides tapering in toward top to form narrow rectangular opening (shallow notch at inside center of one long side); beveled base rim; cutting marks along base edge.
