Physical DescriptionOpaque double-walled "mercury" glass (silver on outside, gold on inside) enclosed in bubbly clear glass; free-blown, cased, pattern-molded and enameled. (A) Covered goblet to be used as container for cigarettes and matches (?); ring foot with concave bottom and rough cemented pontil mark, spool-like stem, cylindrical beaker finial; the encased silver layer is fluted, on the outside - in frosted silver enamel - an arcade frieze below rim and four panels framed by wreaths and bearing alternating pendants and leaves, two flying birds underneath the pendants; arcades and festoons form a similar pattern on the beaker-finial. (B) Covered beaker; cylindrical body with flanged bottom and slightly projecting base having rough cemented pontil mark; set-in cover with ovoid finial and rough cemented pontil mark; on the body below rim in frosted silver enamel an arcade frieze with volute and wicker-work ornaments, festoons in a geometric design two of which have birds; the cover has the same arcade frieze, ring around finial. (C) Plate; projecting base with rough cemented pontil mark, walls curved upwards; silver layer slightly fluted; on the inside festoons with leaves and wide arcades, two birds sit on the festoons, a quatrefoil at center.
