Physical DescriptionSnuff Bottle with Scenes of Children at Play (白套松石藍和黑色玻璃庭園嬰戯圖鼻烟壺). (a) Opaque dark brown (appearing as black in normal light), translucent turquoise-blue, and semi-transparent milky white glass; blown, cameo carved, engraved, polished. Snuff bottle with a flat lip and recessed, convex, oval foot surrounded by a protruding convex, oval foot rim; carved as a double overlay with a continuous rocky landscape with trees and scenes of children at play. (b) Tourmaline dome-shaped stopper with cork and 0.5 cm of remnant of ivory/bone spoon (rest of spoon is missing).Provenance

Janos Szekeres was the co-founder of the Savin Corporation. Born in Hungary, he attended the University of Vienna in Austria for his graduate studies and doctoral program in textile chemistry. Szekeres introduced the photocopier diffusion process to the American market in 1951 and was granted a patent for the electrostatic copier using liquid toner in 1957. He was a member emeritus of the Chemist Club, the Oriental Ceramic Society, the Art Appraisers Association and the Gemological Institute. He served on the Board of Directors of the International Chinese Snuff Bottle Society and on the Collections Committee of the Arthur W. Sackler Museum at Harvard University. He also had been on the boards of the Everson Museum in Syracuse, NY and the Stamford Museum and Nature Center.
