Physical DescriptionClear glass; free-blown and engraved. Flat foot in form of a scalloped shield, composite stem, including a solid inverted baluster resting on a merese and surmounted by a cushioned flat knop, boat-shaped bowl with partly scalloped rim, the narrow part topped by a hemispherical flat piece cut out of the original gather; on the underside of the foot a large cartouche including leaves and rocaille-like volutes, terminating on the narrow end in a palmette, the border is met with polished pearls, in the center is an engraved mark of the Lobmeyr firm; the two knops of the stem are faceted; on the exterior of the bowl an elaborate scene; on the obverse the front end of the bowl, double coats of arms and a cartouche surmounted by a ducal (?) crown surrounded by leaf sprays, tendrils and rocailles, the two broad sides and the narrow side having a continuous scene: a classical landscape with classical ruins, on one side a satyr having a child on his shoulders, two small satyr children are watching, a male and a female are sitting on a right band to watch the group; on the other side the story of Zeus and Callisteo (Ovid, book 2), both sitting half nude on a bank surrounded by dogs, an eagle on the left, and the narrow end of the bowl is occupied by a large tree, the flat part on top is engraved with a half petal rosette.Provenance
