Physical DescriptionAlmost colorless glass with yellowish-green tinge; some small bubbles; blown; lathe-cut, wheel-cut and engraved. Hemispherical shape bowl; flaring rim, cracked off and ground; wall descends almost vertically, then curves in at bottom; decorated on exterior with three bands of ornaments on wall and roundel on underside, all with lathe-cut borders: two narrow lines on rim, broad line between top and middle band, two narrow lines between middle and bottom band, and single narrow line between bottom band and roundel; top band contains one row of short horizontal cuts, middle band has sea creatures with broad wheel-cut outlines, and cut and engraved details and background motifs; sea creatures comprise hippocamp, five fish (one almost completely missing) and cuttle fish; bottom band has row of short vertical cuts; roundel contains unidentified motif with cut and engraved lines, many short internal cracks, often in immediate vicinity of cutting; plain, slightly concave base; no pontil scar.Provenance
