Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; polished and cut sheet glass, engraved, painted, gilt; stamped, enameled, and gilt metal. (a) Flat shape, with hinged, flat cover; ogee sides; engraving visible from the top, oval panel bearing ligatured script monogram "FA", with ermine mantling, a chain and medal of the Order of the Golden Fleece suspended below; a domed canopy above, with lambrequin edge, surmounted by a royal crown; flanked by a trophy of arms at either side, and palm fronds below; mounted in a molded gold frame with curved thumb-piece on the front; engraved and gilt decoration on the reverse side, and visible from the front 2 shields, one the arms of Poland; the second with a crowned lions and arrows. The sides of the snuffbox enameled with raised gilt decoration of floral swags, a mask and a royal crown on the back; the glass sheets mounted in molded gold framing. (b) Flat, lidded form, to enclose (a); formed of a flat, thin sheet of wood, curved, glued, thin wood sides; two small brass loops on the front, a short strip of grained brown leather attached to the front; lined with dark green velvet; the base carved from a single piece of wood; molded rim; two small brass hooks on the front; short length of grained brown leather on the front; lined with dark green velvet.
