Physical DescriptionColorless, with colorless, translucent white, translucent light green, and translucent purple canes; colorless gather marvered; sections of canes arranged on flat surface and picked up on gather, reheated and marvered; cased with colorless; inflated and manipulated to desired shape and size; transferred to pontil; rim finished at furnace; after annealing, underside of base ground and polished, and signature engraved. Bottle. Rim plain, with rounded top; narrow cylindrical neck, slightly wider at bottom than at top; steeply sloping shoulder; straight wall, which splays slightly and curves in at bottom; base plain, with concavity at center. Decorated with three horizontal rows of cane-sections, each containing six identical pieces, which together make continuous over-all pattern extending from rim to edge of base; all canes are rectangular, top row (which extends from rim to bottom of shoulder) being tallest and narrowest and bottom row being shortest and widest; each cane has white oval or circular area at center, surrounded by two green rectangles alternating with two white rectangles and, outside these, purple rectangle with serrated outline and colorless rectangle. Some bubbles at junctions of cane-sections. Signature engraved under base: "Ercole Barovier/ Murano/ 1964". Two paper labels: (1) on neck, printed in cherry pink and silver, "BAROVIER & TOSO/ MURANO/ ORIGINAL/ VENETIAN GLASS/ Made in Italy"; (2) under base, printed in red, "BAROVIER & TOSO/ MURANO/ MADE IN IT[ALY]".Provenance
