Physical DescriptionBrown, gold; wood, plaster, glass; cast bronze, machine made frame, hand-assembled. Oval gesso frame with a cover glass, enclosing a backing inscribed "THE MANUFACTURER OF THE UNITED STATES/LOUIS HEIDT/BROOKLYN" and "PARIS 1889/ EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE". Between the inscriptions are two gilded medals showing classical figures, one with "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE 1889" and the other with "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE/LOUIS HEIDT" with a crown and gilded shield showing a ship in between. Both medals signed "LOUIS DOTTEE" on lower rim.Provenance
