Physical DescriptionComposite Beaker. (Body, flange, and tube) Almost colorless, with translucent deep blue and opaque turquoise blobs; (foot) colorless. Blown; applied. Beaker with truncated conical body. Rim plain, with rounded lip; wall tapers; near bottom (but separated from it by restored area), horizontal flange with rounded edge, made by trailing, below which wall curves down and in; foot (perhaps made separately) conical but shallow, with rounded edge; at center of foot, perforation (D. 0.7 cm) giving access to vertical tube with rounded top (L. 9.5 cm), which projects upward into body; foot and tube perhaps made from separate components. Applied decoration on wall is colorless, except for blobs, and consists of broad register bordered at top by continuous horizontal trail, 2.2 cm below lip. Register is divided into four equal parts by vertical rows of blobs; each row contains two or three blobs (clockwise, from top to bottom): turquoise, deep blue, turquoise; deep blue, gap, deep blue; turquoise, deep blue, turquoise; and deep blue, turquoise, deep blue. Each space between blobs is occupied by similar motif: reversed S-shaped element, which terminates in large spiral facing viewer’s left at top, and small abstract design facing viewer’s right at bottom.
