Physical DescriptionColorless. Blown; relief-cut. Beaker shaped like truncated cone. Rim plain, with bevel on inside; wall (Th. 0.2 cm) straight and tapering, then bending in at bottom; base conical, with hollow underside and raised circle (D. 2 cm) at center. Wall has decoration in relief (Th. 0.1 cm): continuous frieze with two horizontal ribs at top and one more prominent rib at bottom. Surviving part of frieze contains three animals and one bird, all shown in profile, facing left. Animals are running, with front legs extended forward and raised, and hind legs extended backward. Clockwise, they are: (1) winged animal, (2) animal that appears to have wing, and (3) horned animal. (1) Animal with small head, eye represented by countersunk dot, and two pointed ears; curved neck; body with raised outline; small front leg and longer back leg; and narrow, raised wing that curls forward at tip; outlines are notched, neck and wing are filled with parallel cuts, and wing covert has herringbone hatching; animal holds stem with bud or flower in its mouth. (2) Animal with body defined by raised outline; small front leg and longer back leg; comma-shaped winglike element that extends from bottom of shoulder to just above back; and curling tail; outlines are notched, body is embellished with shallow printies, and “wing” has herringbone hatching. (3) Animal with small head, pointed muzzle, and eye consisting of countersunk dot; thick, curved horn projecting behind head; neck with one horizontal cut; body defined by raised outline; small front leg and longer back leg; and curling tail; outlines are notched, body is embellished with shallow printies, and horn has herringbone hatching. Bird is shown in profile, standing on tail of animal (2) and facing left. It has small head with pointed beak and eye represented by countersunk dot, narrow neck, body with raised outline, wing pointing upward and terminating in half-palmette, long and drooping tail, and short leg; outlines are notched, body is embellished with shallow printies, neck and wing are hatched, and tail has herringbone hatching.
