Physical DescriptionColorless; very small bubbles. Blown; applied, facet- and relief-cut. Fragment of ewer, consisting of all of neck and handle, and small part of upper wall. Rim plain, with lip ground flat; neck shaped like narrow funnel, with slightly concave profile; upper wall curves down and out, and before cutting was barely 0.15 cm thick; handle with rectangular cross section dropped onto wall, drawn up and in, and attached to top of neck, with vertical thumb-rest at highest point. Neck, wall, and handle have relief- and facet-cut ornament. Midsection of neck has broad relief-cut panel, which is interrupted behind handle and framed by raised border; panel contains two confronted animals shown in profile and separated by small oval motif; each animal has eye indicated by countersunk dot, long and curved ear, front leg extended forward and rear leg extended backward, and long tail with tuft; oval motif and ears are hatched with herringbone pattern; necks, feet, and tufts are hatched; outlines of animals are notched.Bottom of neck has continuous horizontal band of six contiguous flat rectangular facets, with raised border at top and stepped profile at bottom. Wall evidently decorated with large panel, top of which is interrupted behind handle, and which has border of two parallel raised lines. Between steps at bottom of neck and lower handle attachment, raised triangular area. Handle is elaborately cut, with thumb-rest in form of bird with hatched, folded wing and with lower attachment in form of heart-shaped palmette; between them, stepped geometric motifs and two horizontal ribs.
