Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass, blown, probably sagged; wood, paper, cardboard. Domed, circular shape, of thin sheet glass; maritime battle scene of two ships painted on the reverse, one (in the foreground) flying British flags, firing on another with tattered sails and a blue-and-white pennant, with painted waves and pieces of sails floating in the foreground; framed by a white and gold border with formal gold foliate sprays at top and bottom, within a second narrow black and gold border decorated with gold stars alternating with gold dots, and inscribed "NELSON'S VICTORY OF THE NILE" in gold at the top; plain outer border of pale green paint; domed glass mounted over a painted background depicting additional warships, one ablaze, the other smoking, with dark gray clouds overhead; within a dark red-brown turned wood frame; cardboard backing, held with masking tape; brass wire loop hanger.Provenance
