Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; sheet glass, cut, grazed. Flat, tapered wood box, with elaborate graining and gilt bands on the top, sides, and inside; hinged flat top with eyes for hooks; cross-hatch decorated hooks; four paw feet, with leaf-molding at the top, of gilt brass on the corners; the inside painted bright blue, with a central vertical strip with two rounded arches; grained wood strip running lengthwise; 25 thin rectangular glass sheets with small paper labels, printed capital letters cemented on the underside; attached to lengths of fabric tape stretched from side to side, and held on the outside with brass nails; on the base, below the center strut, a square pink (paper label, with printed border and printed inscription "CROSSLEY, / Maker, St. Mary's - Gate, / Manchester." Two long, thin pieces of grained wood with longitudinal gold stripe on one side, of oval cross-section, one with a disk of cork with chamois leather facing attached on the end.
