Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass; encrusted molded sulphide; porcelain. (a) Cylindrical cup with flared rim and rounded base; gilt on the inside, on the rim and base, with an elaborate transfer-printed scene in black on the front, of a queen pleading on her knees to a seated king (Henry IV); behind her a young man kneeling holding a plate bearing two keys, with standing robed men and a soldier behind, with other male figures standing around the King; gilt frame; puce enameled panel at the back, with scrolls in white, yellow and green at either side of an applied scrolled gilt handle, with eagle's head at top and leaves near the lower terminal; open base, with a cemented glass plaque enclosing a sulphide of a male, bearded figure (King Henry IV); with impressed mark on the reverse. (b) Circular, flared form, with gilt rim; inside of sides with red-lavender band, with formal paterae, foliage and flowers; two gilt bands within, with gilt paneled disc and ring at the center; the reverse undecorated white porcelain; rounded foot rim.
