This goblet depicts a scene with King Solomon and King David.

Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, gilt. (a) Large round-funnel bowl with gilt rim and border of polished circular facets, with faceted fluting, outlined with gilding, at the base; engraved decoration of three scenes: one with a man in armor, seated at a table with four women, another with a crowned king and four women, and the third with two crowned men seated at a table, one writing, the other playing a harp, inscribed above "der Davidt, u" der Salomon, das waren Grosse Sunder/Sie hatten Schone Weiber lieb, u" Zeigten viele Kinder" and "und alss Sie nicht mehr Kontten, und kahmen in das Alter/macht Salomon Proverbia, und Davidt macht Psalter"; the base of the bowl enclosing nine air bubbles; stem composed of a spreading, flute-cut section gilt at top and bottom, above a faceted ball knop containing numerous air bubbles, a long, flute-cut waisted section, gilt at top and bottom, and a flattened ball knop; large circular foot with cut faceted panel-fluting, with gilding at top, center and outlining the rounded ends of the panels; rough pontil mark. (b) Domed shape with rounded sides and cut, tapered, inset flange; cut band of circular facets and gilt band on the side; hollow and rounded flutes cut on top, outlined with gilding; finial formed of a faceted ball knop, gilt on the top, above a faceted, gilt, flattened ball knop, a faceted true baluster, and a flattened ball knop gilt on the upper side; rough pontil mark.
