Physical DescriptionCovered Pokal or Goblet. Clear glass with few minute bubbles, on cover some large bubbles; wear marks; free-blown, dip-molded, tooled and engraved. (a) Plain conical foot with rough pontil mark, inverted hollow baluster stem ending at bottom in a disk, and surmounted by four stepped disks which support funnel bowl; on bowl, a frieze of six buildings with turrets - influenced by Chinese architecture - surrounded by lines forming ovals and separated by large polished dots with leaves; frieze is bordered at top and bottom by pinnate bands. (b) Set-in domed cover with pontil mark and with a finial consisting of small knobs and disks, ending in a ball and resting on a crimped and scalloped broad "rosette"; cover has similar pinnate band.
