Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, gilt. (a) Flattened, ovoid form; short, cylindrical neck with cut panels, above a trailed facet-cut ring; panel-cut, slightly spreading neck below, with gilt band around the middle; spreading shoulders with rounded panel cutting, oval body, rounded at the top, tapering toward the base, with cut raised shell on one end, cut gilt shells on the two faces; on the other end, an engraved chinoiserie figure holding a parasol, leaning on an oval panel with engraved pine tree and the inscription "Aucun tems ne le change" encircling the tree, with elaborate floral and foliate scrolls at the sides and below; minute chinoiserie scenes at either side; waisted lower part of the body with cut rounded panels; flattened disk above a cut peg with rough pontil mark; sloping circular foot cemented to the peg. (b) Cylindrical gilt-metal cap with engraved undulating vine with leaves and flowers at the bottom; slightly rounded top with small ball finial; attached to a cylindrical cork.Provenance
