Interpretive Notes
This dolphin is closely related to several in the Baccarat catalogue but not identical. The dolphin is show supporting epergnes, flower holders, fish bowls and other tops. It was probably also made at St. Louis and possibly at other European factories.

Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass, metal; pressed, blown, acid-etched. (a) Spherical bowl, open at the top with slightly flaring rim which has been cut and polished. Acid-etched row of anthemions below rim, applied wafer at base of bowl, applied metal collar, (b) pressed cylindrical glass collar in a twisted design, acid-frosted, which fits over the metal parts to hide them. (c) Pressed dolphin, acid-frosted, with his tail in the air and a wafer on top of his tail, holding up a silver collar; the dolphin has a beard and his head rests on a circular plinth which has an edge of alternating scallops and points.
