Physical DescriptionClear and transparent ruby-red glass; free-blown, flashed, cut, acid-etched and possibly engraved. Broad concave body resting on a pedestal-like slightly inclined bottom part with slightly concave base; lashed in ruby which has been cut away to form the ornamental decoration; the cut decoration consists of a multipointed star, an arched band around the bottom part of the beaker, a large circlet enclosing seven discs arranged in a rosette pattern; on the reverse, are two vertically oriented leaf and geometric motifs separating the large circlet from the obverse medallion which consists of a large miter cut enclosing the main scene of the objects: a bearded knight proceeding towards the right over the corpse of an enemy, holding in his left arm a large flag and in his right arm a sword which he points towards the right, in the background a fire from which clouds of smoke emerge, underneath an inscription band: "Heman (for Herrmann) Seevogel, Hauptman der blaser (the scene seems to have been done with a copper-wheel and then treated with acid).Provenance
