Physical DescriptionColorless lead glass; blown, engraved. (a) Ovoid bowl with engraved panel depicting Bacchus, nude except for grape leaves on his lap, holding a goblet, seated on a rectangular box, with a nude woman leaning over to place grape leaves in his hair, with a putto alongside; a barrel at the left, grapes and other fruit below, in an arched panel, with bat wings below; stair-stepped panels at either side, containing grape vines; four musicians standing on the steps at either side; basket of flowers and fruit above; foliate scrolls below at either side; drawn massive straight stem; domed foot with engraved continuous grape vine; rough pontil mark, partly ground. (b) Flat cover with rounded rim and inset brim; engraved continuous grape vine; finial composed of a conical knop above a ball knop containing multiple air beads, on a short shank, and three mereses; rough pontil mark inside.Provenance
