Physical DescriptionColorless, transparent ruby-red, opaque white non-lead glasses; blown, overlaid, cut, gilt, enameled. (a) Tall shape, with cup- shaped top; colorless overlay on ruby; rim cut in a series of large and small points, gilt; cup top with tapered, straight sides and rounded base, white overlaid on colorless, on ruby- red; the white cut to leave a series of ten ovals, each with gilt rim, and decorated in polychrome enamels, alternately five bust-length portraits of children and five of floral sprays; random ivy vines cover the ruby background; the curved section pierced with ten drilled holes, each with a metal hook inserted, to hold the prisms; tapered, slender, hollow stem below the cup, covered with meandering gilt ivy; disk over flattened ball knop, with gilt bands; bell-shaped foot with gilt ivy; cut geometric foot rim, outlined with overlapping gilt band outlined with black; no pontil mark. (b-k) Triangular, colorless prisms; three faces on the upper, tapered part cut flat, with elaborate notching on one of the angles to create an ornament; pointed, hexagonal end; attached at the top to a faceted, circular jewel; wire hooks to attach the drop to (a).Provenance
