Physical DescriptionTransparent ruby and colorless non-lead glass; blown, overlay, cut, and gilt. (a) Bowl on stem and foot; colorless over ruby lining; shallow bowl with everted cut, rounded, rim, flat base, and hole in the center open to the middle of the stem, with ground sides and ground ring around the top; waisted, panel-cut trumpet foot; gilt decoration consisting of a gilt rim, meander pattern band on the exterior of the sides, with two gilt bands below, gilt bands at the top and bottom of the stem and foot and on the knop; gilt outlines of the cut panels; gilt foot rim; gilt mark on the underside of the foot, consisting of an oval frame containing a crowned shield with vertical stripes. (b) Tall, ovoid form, with cut crenellated rim; gilt rim; gilt meander band around the middle; gilt rounded panels at the base; flared section at the base, with tapered, rough-ground shank below, ground base; shank fits loosely in hole in center of bowl of (a).Provenance
