Physical DescriptionColorless, transparent ruby non-lead glasses, white sulphide; blown, overlay, encased, cut, gilt, molded sulphide. (a) Bulbous, ovoid shape; colorless on ruby; neck and flat rim octagonal and panel cut, with gilt rim and outlined gilt panels; neck ground for a stopper, shoulder panel-cut and outlined with gilding, cut convex oval panel on the front, enclosing a molded sulphide plaque of a putto standing beside an altar, inscribed "A La/Plus/Bede [?]", a dog alongside at the rear; sides and back with cut large bulbous ovals and diamonds, with gilt foliate motifs; base panel-cut, with gilt outlines; panel-cut, petal-cut foot with gilt outlines; bottom with eight cut fans. (b) Hollow, pointed ovoid, panel- cut shape; colorless over ruby; panels with gilt outlines and foliate motifs; waisted, gilt-banded neck; ground, tapered shank.Provenance

Purchased from Louis Lyons in 1984 using funds from the Clara S. Peck Endowment Fund. Catalogue cards say that these objects were a bequest of Clara S. Peck (by exchange), and the purchase recommendation says the museum planned to use funds acquired by deaccessioning duplicate paperweights, including some given by Mrs. Amory Houghton and Mrs. Leigh M. Battson. Several paperweights bequeathed by Clara S. Peck in 1983 were also deaccessioned around that time.
