Interpretive Notes
This set was blown by John H. Leighton, son of Thomas Leighton, for his older daughter, Mary May. It was decorated in the company’s shops.
Physical DescriptionRuby over colorless, lead glasses; blown, cased, cut, gilt. (a) Perfume decanter: bulbous body with tall slender neck; gilt bands; cut with two rows of eight opposing arches through gold ruby to clear; cut trefoils and quatrefoils between arches; gilt swags and ornaments around body; octagonal base with ground and polished pontil mark. (b) Inverted pear-shaped, cut through ruby to clear in four vertical panels, showing elongated air bubble inside; gilt decoration around body; ground neck.
