Physical DescriptionBottle with Ring-and-Dot Motifs and Rosettes. Upper part: transparent deep blue, with some bubbles (L. up to 0.6 cm); lower part: almost colorless, with greenish tinge and bubbles (L. of largest 0.9 cm). Blown (two gathers); pincered. Bottle. Rim plain, with rounded lip; neck has straight, tapering side; shoulder rounded, with horizontal seam at junction with wall, which splays and has slightly convex profile; base plain; pontil mark roughly circular (D. about 1.2 cm). Pincered decoration on lower wall consists of two alternating motifs made with different tools, each occurring five times to make one continuous horizontal band. Larger motif (W. 3.5-3.7 cm) has two concentric rings in negative relief, with raised dot at center. Smaller motif (W. 1.5-2 cm) has three transverse rows of three dots separated by grooves. Each group of dots makes rosette-like pattern with eight dots enclosing central dot. Larger motifs were made before smaller ones. Ring-and-dot motifs are somewhat distorted and irregularly spaced, so that two rosettes occupy spaces between two pairs of them, while three rosettes overlap adjacent rings-and-dots.Provenance
