Physical DescriptionColorless (grey) non-lead glass; blown, diamond-point (scratch) engraved, enameled, gilt. Tall, straight-sided, cylindrical form; diamond-engraved formal foliate border at the top and bottom, chain borders flanking plain bands, and a wide central band with vertical, waisted panels of formal foliage, framing curved open panels; enameled coats of arms on each of these panels, overlapping some of the diamond-point engraving, on one side the shield divided in half horizontally (per fesse), with a gilt griffin against a blue field in the upper division, six red and white bars (bends sinister) in the lower, with red and white and blue and gold mantling, a crowned helmet bearing a crest of a demi griffin; inscribed on a white ribband above "15/Gott allein Vermags/99" and below "Andreas Bieffing"; the arms on the reverse, the shield divided in half horizontally (per fesse), gold in the upper division, black in the lower, with a man walking with a staff across both divisions; black and gold mantling; helmet with a crest of a man carrying a staff; inscribed in a white ribband above "15/Gott allain mein Trost./ 99" and on a ribband below, "Dorothea Bieffingin geborne/ Stampflin."; the remains of cold painting and gilding in the upper plain band that is overlapped by the upper ribbands; gilt band at the base of the bowl; trumpet-shaped, flared foot cemented to the base of the bowl; rough pontil mark on the bottom of the bowl.
