Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown, cut, engraved, gilt. Bell- shaped bowl with gilt rim; band of cut circular lenses below the rim; engraved depiction of a winged angel, carrying a bow and wearing a quiver of arrows, sails across a sea in a shell toward a palace standing on high rocks, with elaborate scrolls, shells, floral and foliate sprays below; above, a matte ribband inscribed "Parvenir ou Perir"; inscribed on the reverse "Mein Freund ein ungesvanter Bogen kann/eine Festung schlecht bedraun, O schick aus deinem vollen Kocher/den scharffsten Pfeil mit Kraft/hinein! /Es steht fur einen jungen/Herren die Unentschlossenheit/nich sein"; band of raised rounded panels at base, with cut chevrons alternating with foliate scrolls on rayed, matte grounds; band of triangular faceting and oval faceting at the base; faceted ball knop stem; spreading, stepped foot with panel cutting and faceting; faceted rim.
