Interpretive Notes
The first technical glass school (Glasfachschule) in central Europe was founded in 1856 in the northern Bohemian village of Kamenický Šenov (Steinschönau). At the school, students and professors decorated glassware with a range of techniques, including enameling, as seen on this vase.
Physical DescriptionVase. Clear glass; slight wear marks; blown, enameled. Solid ring foot with ground base, broad double-oval body with high flaring rim with ground edge; black foot, on body two friezes of black disks each bearing an acorn and leaves with frosted surface, alternating with disks with black contours each bearing a smaller gold and black wave-like disk, on the neck a frieze of triangles with black vertical and golden vertical waves.
