Physical DescriptionClear bubbly glass with many impurities and greyish-greenish tinge; wear marks at base; free-blown, enameled and gilded. Almost cylindrical body slightly tapering at top and bottom, pushed up base with rough pontil mark, applied foot ring; enamel decoration: on the obverse in multicolored enamel and crowned with a Bishop's crown, the double coats of arms of Phillipp Valentin Voit (Voigt) von Rieneck, Bishop of Bamberg; both shields are oval, one containing a lion, a diagonal white bar against a yellow background, the other a ram against a green background; the arms are flanked by: "1654", above the arms the letters "P. V. E. B." (Philippus Valentinus Episcopus Bambergensis ?); on the reverse the full figures of three men, the central one a knight in black and white gown with a big black hat, apparently wearing the insignia of the knightly order of Jerusalem; he is flanked by two clerics, also clad in white and black, each holding a book; above the left cleric: "B. S. I. C. B." (?) (Societatis Jesu Cancellarius Bambergensis ?); above the cavalier: "I. B. I. V. D. E. B. C." (?) (Bernardus Iosephus von Dernbach Bambergensis Capitanus ?) between the coats of arms and the three standing figures many gilded (mostly rubbed off) star ornaments with white dotted extensions, as well as triangular spiral motifs; the three men stand on a grass strip which has a group of three yellow, blue and red lines; below rim a gilded band (partly rubbed off) with white dots and accompanied by four rows of white beads as well as two bands of ovals and diamonds.Provenance
