Physical DescriptionBrown salt-glazed stoneware; turned, molded, enameled, gilt. Squat, cylindrical shape; tapered rim with molded band below; rounded band with molded and white-enameled inscription "WER. AVS.MIR.DRINCKD.ZV.IDER.ZEID.DEM.", followed by a raised, yellow-enameled foliate device with blue center; narrow pewter band encircling the body below the inscription band and near the bottom of the body; wide band between the enameled, molded standing figures of men, inscribed on white ribbands above, "S. PETRVS./S. ANDEREAS./S. IACOB MAIOR/S IOHANNES/S. PHILIPPVS./S. BARTOLOME/SALVATOR/S. THOMAS./S MATHEVS./S. IACOB MINOR/S. SIMONIS./S IVDAS DATEVS./S. MATHIAS."; the figures variously clad, each holding an implement or object; the central figure of Christ holding an orb of state surmounted by a cross, the other hand raised in blessing, dated "1640." behind the handle; applied loop handle with molded, yellow-enameled grotesque mask with brown mustache and white-and-blue striped "beard" with green mid-band; rounded band below the band with saints, with molded and white-enameled inscription "GESENGS. DIEHEILIG. DRIEFALDIG.KEID.HANNS.SCHWARTZ" and an enameled stylized flower; the sloping base also with molded and white enameled inscription "CLARA. SCHWERTZIN.1.6.4.0" followed by a length of molded chain; angular foot rim; concave base, partly glazed; flat pewter cover with domed center, hinged to the handle; the top of the cover with bands of engraved floral and foliate scrollwork; two hallmarks at the front, both of shield shape, that at the left with the initials "HRD" in the top half, a merchant's mark (?) in the lower half; the second mark, a coat of arms; scrolled thumb-piece.
