Physical DescriptionBrown salt-glazed stoneware; turned, molded, enameled. (a) Ovoid shape; flared rim, with pewter screw collar affixed; rounded sides with molded oval panels formed of female herms, with nude female torsos above blue drapery with lion masks, red columnar base; yellow-enameled chains in arcs above and below the panels, springing from the heads and bases of the herms; stylized flowers with polychrome enamel decoration above each herm; molded figures in each panel, with inscriptions on white ribbands above figure, "SALVATOR." (above a figure of Christ, with rayed halo, holding an orb of state in one hand, the other hand raised in blessing); "S. THOMAS." (above a figure clad in green and pale blue, holding a book in one hand, a spear in the other and dated "1.6/54"; "S. MATHEVS." (above a figure in red and white, holding a book and a chalice with serpent on top); "S. PHILIPVS." (dressed in brown and yellow, (reading from a book and holding a crozier); and "S. BARTHOLOME" (dressed in blue and white); each figure with red, yellow, and blue bars below; waisted bottom, with turned, flared foot; angular pewter rim on the edge; flat bottom; rectangular paper sticker printed "820" and "511"; brown leather square label printed "EDWIN J/BEINECKE/ COLLECTION/106" in gold; rectangular paper label inscribed "57.7.6" in yellow paint. (b) Flat, cylindrical shape of pewter, with turned ribbing at the top and bottom of the sides; incised rings on the top; inscribed "I M.G/G."; pierced globular finial with loose ring.
