Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; blown and sand-cast in a sand mold, ground, polished, burnished and kiln-fired gold, engraved. Large bowl, with three solid cast legs; exterior walls covered with gold luster; rim decorated with narrow band engraved with alternating line and dot pattern; below, a wide smooth band is divided into seven wide panels with inscribed linear designs of: stylized Oriental calligraphy, graveyard, tri-pod bowl, three irregular horizontal shapes, profile and overhead views of reclining "Cycladic" figure, landscape over seven phases of the moon; three vertical vessels similar to 90.6.7; bowl exterior below band has mottled molded surface with bits of embedded sand and textured with random extending bumps of varying heights; inscribed at lower edge of gold band under far right vertical vessel image: "B. Hirst '87"; rounded base of bowl connects to three ungilded lobe-shaped solid tapered cast legs also with textured surface; interior bowl covered with burnished luster appearing slightly iridized black; ground feet, rough pontil.
