Physical DescriptionVariegated translucent opalescent purple non-lead glass; mold-blown, cut, gilded. Hollow throughout; large ovoid bowl with elaborately cut decoration forming a polygonal rim, the cutting consisting of a series of panels at the rim, above a series of four elaborate rounded panels containing relief-cut pointed and rounded oval facets; the rim gilded; elaborate triangular panels enclosing gilded scrollwork below the rim; the oval panels outlined with gilding and rounded bands of stylized foliate sprays; a band of gilt strapwork below the panels; a cut recessed band below the bowl, decorated with an elaborate gilded stylized vine border within horizontal lines; a large flared knop below, cut on top and bottom with panels, with a criss-cross border at the edge; cut cylindrical stem below, decorated with a wide gilded foliate border framed with lines; panel-cut, eight-pointed foot, with gilded band of arcs and trefoils; the underside of the foot with polished, raised concave disk in the center.Provenance
