Physical DescriptionClear glass; heavy wear marks at base; free-blown, engraved and cut. Straight-sided slightly tapering beaker with flat base and ground pontil mark; cut in 12 panels with ovals at lower body; very elaborate engraved decoration, including four panels (each comprising two of the cut panels) with scenes framed by heavy floral borders, alternating with narrow panels (each on one cut panel) covered with floral decoration and each having a disk at center containing alternating eagle and lion; each of these eight panels are framed by vertical grooves and horizontal leaf border; the scenes show allegories of love: a seated woman with three children ("Die Lieb Ist Mild"), a couple - the man in armor - seated on a carriage drawn by lions and accompanied by two putti ("Und Gebensreich"), two putti with two hearts pierced by arrows ("Nur Einen Bibst"), and two seated women each with two arrows in the breast ("Das Hertz Zugleich"); rosettes alternating with wreaths on the cut ovals, a coat-of-arms (two lions and two horns between bars) on the ground and polished pontil mark, framed by a wavy vine wreath.
