Physical DescriptionMosaic Plaque with Prisoners. Translucent aquamarine glass backing, bubbly, fused to a strip composed of canes of opaque yellow, opaque white, opaque brick-red, opaque turquoise and translucent medium blue glass; mosaic glass or millefiori technique, repolished recently. On a white ground two brick-red nude captives are bound hand and foot by a yellow cord to a vertical turquoise column with red and white v-shaped capital; beard, facial features, pubic hair and rope are highlighted with deep blue; the strip preserves this design duplicated twice and surrounded by a triple border, the center register consisting of alternating blue and red squares each separated by white with a register of yellow above and below; this border is missing on the left side indicating that at least one or more squares of this captive motif existed in the original strip; the backing glass is irregular and retains tooling marks over the entire surface.
