Physical DescriptionMillefiori Demi-Parure. Multicolored millefiori paperweight glass, blue glass cane, gold colored metal, dark green leather, off-white velvet, off-white satin; assembled. Demi-Parure comprised of three pieces of jewelry: an oval brooch and a pair of pendant earrings. The pendant earrings (B) are each composed of two parts: an oval with a drop-shaped plaque. In each earring, the central section of millefiori glass is open backed, allowing light to pass through. The millefiori sections are surrounded by deep blue glass cane, set within a gold framework mount. The oval brooch (A) is constructed in a similar manner, with an open backed millefiori oval surrounded by a deep blue glass cane within a gold framework mount. The millefiori oval brooch is no longer attached to the surrounding mount and a portion of the blue cane is missing. The demi-parure is accompanied by a custom case (C).Provenance

Fine Glass and British Ceramics, 19 September 2020, starting at 10:30 BST, Lot 89 Provenance Information supplied 2020-09-16 by Dr. Jim Peake, Glass and British Ceramics Specialist, Bonhams London: “The [set] has been in the same collection in the north of England since it was sold at Sotheby’s as mentioned in the footnote - it belonged to the client’s late father who collected millefiori pieces, and had hoped to write a book on the subject. All of our sales are routinely checked by the ALR so any problem pieces would have been flagged. If you do require a certificate I can contact them to see if I can get this in time for the sale, but it has been in the same collection since being legitimately bought at auction in 1972.”
