Interpretive Notes
During conservation treatment for the Museum's 2016 special exhibition, "Fragile Legacy: The Marine Invertebrate Models of Leopold and Rudolf Blaschka" , Museum conservators discovered four faint numbers (possibly 379, 604, 630, and 609) written on the lid of this box. These numbers likely correspond to the models once packed inside. Wooden and cardboard boxes discovered at the Blaschkas’ studio suggest that, just like the construction of their models, their packing and shipping methods evolved as they experimented with different materials for the best results.
Physical DescriptionWooden Box. Wood, metal, paper; assembled. Wooden box with hinged lid; metal wire hinges and clasp. Box filled with crumpled paper.
