Physical DescriptionSculpture, "Black Cube". Opaque black Opaxit (Vitrolite) sheet glass, aluminum alloy frame, metal supports, Black 895 Structural Glazing Sealant (silicone); kiln-slumped glass, cut, assembled. Six sheets of Chodopak glass have been assembled to form a sculpture in the shape of a cube. Each sheet was slumped inside of a kiln to create a bulge in the flat surface. The altered sheets were then mounted on an aluminum alloy skeleton and secured with silicone. There are four metal legs that are attached to the frame. They penetrate the bottom sheet of glass and support the weight of the sculpture, which is approximately 120 kilograms (265 pounds). The support legs are virtually invisible to the viewer, and they elevate the cube about 2 mm above the floor, creating the impression that the sculpture is floating.
