Interpretive Notes
This Finger Bowl was ordered by President Millard Fillmore.
Physical DescriptionEngraved Finger Bowl. Pink (rose) transparent glass, blown, engraved, and ground. Bowl has tooled and ground foot with low round body and straight rim. The piece is decorated around high body with engraved grapevines and grape decoration surrounding a variant of the United States Seal insignia. An eagle perches on a shield of stars and stripes, there is a palm frond near the eagle’s right talon and a laurel branch on the eagle’s left. Below the shield, which is decorated with bars and stars, is a banner with the words "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

Initially, Mrs. Barger lent the finger bowl to Kurt Reed. The bowl was purchased by Dr. Walter Barb from the Barger estate via Richard Opfer Auctioneering, Inc. 1995-11-06. Barb then gifted the bowl to Mr. Reed.
