Physical DescriptionColorless non-lead glass; polished sheet glass, cut, engraved. Thick, square, flat shape; both faces polished flat; edges chamfered; elaborately engraved on one side, with numerous putti in a flower-strewn cloud, with scrolls and cornucopias; an oval panel in the center with deeply engraved bust-length portrait of a man, facing partly to dexter, with full beard and mustache; wearing a military uniform with epaulets and medals; an eagle and crown above; an oval panel below, with angel's heads and the monogram "F/R"; below that, a coat of arms; at the left side, a crowned eagle with orb and scepter in its talons; at the right, a similar panel with elaborate coat of arms; at the very bottom, an eagle in a circular panel; at the far right, a ribbon inscribed "Albert Wiegel Cassel Germany 1894-1904."; mounted in a wide frame of black and red-brown Belgian marble, the sides round slightly; a large brass ribbon screwed on at the bottom, inscribed "Hinuberschweben Kaiser Friedrichs nach Walhalla! /Assumption of Emperor Frederic to Walhalla!", with a quartered shield below; inscribed on the reverse side of the ribbon "KAISER FRIEDRICH : EMPEROR FREDERIC"; brass straps across the corners, screwed into the sides; two steel bolts at the side corners.
