Physical DescriptionSculpture, "Mining Industries: Corning, 2018". Colorless kiln-cast glass, welded steel, plastic transparency; assembled. Four slabs of colorless, kiln-cast glass, stacked in two layers. The top most layer of glass is cast from a 3-D printed pattern generated from a LiDAR scan of downtown Corning. A plastic transparency depicting sections of a Sanborn Fire Insurance Map from 1930 and a 1968 aerial photograph sits between the two layers of glass. The glass is set within a welded steel frame, situated several inches below the glass, but above the ground, is a sheet of mirrorized glass. (a) Metal base, (b) mirror, (c) solid glass slab that sits below southern portion of Corning, (d) solid glass slab that sits below northern portion of Corning, (e) plastic transparency map, (f) glass 3-D depiction of southern portion of Corning coated with a conservation-grade epoxy (HXTAL NYL-1) to achieve a desired sheen, (g) glass 3-D depiction of northern portion of Corning coated with a conservation-grade epoxy (HXTAL NYL-1) to achieve a desired sheen.Provenance
