Physical DescriptionPale aquamarine non-lead glass; blown, engraved; turned pewter mounts. (a) Conical, straight-sided, cylindrical shape, pewter collar with threaded neck, tapered sides with two incised rings; attached to the top of the bottle; the sides elaborately engraved, with two vignettes flanked by pine trees with layered branches; one vignette depicting a potter at his wheel, removing a large, tapered mug, the potter seated on a four-legged stool,with two mugs and a brown underneath, the floor paved with diamond-shaped tiles; zig-zag band below the scene; the vignette on the reverse with a baby in a candle on rockers with scrolled ends; linked scrolls in a band below the scene; inscribed above the baby "VIVAT/L.TS [conjoined]./.M.E.C."; inscribed around the neck, above the vignettes "Wer gutte arbeit denckt zu machen/ betehl den himel seine sachen"; concave base with rough pontil mark. (b) Tall, waisted spout, open throughout its length; rounded rim; turned rings at the base; slightly domed top, with incised ring at the bottom; threaded inside.Provenance
